Carbondale – A Chicago man was arrested and charged after allegedly trying to abduct a child at University Mall in Carbondale Sunday afternoon. According to Carbondale Police, officers responded to Macy’s around 3:50 in reference to a possible child abduction report. Officers learned the suspect followed the victims and an infant child inside the business and attempted to photograph or record them with a cell phone. During the course of the investigation, officers located the suspect, Argenis Hernandez of Chicago, and arrested him for stalking and disorderly conduct. Hernandez was taken to the Jackson County Jail where he was locked up. Anyone with information about the incident should contact Carbondale Police at 457-3200.
