Contract Awarded for Tear-Down of Two Cairo Public Housing Complexes

Alexander Co. – The Alexander County Housing Authority is awarding a contractor $1.9 million for the demolition of the Elmwood and McBride Public Housing Complexes in Cairo. A release from the ACHA states that RCRA, Inc. of Benton will raze the 278 housing units, which had been condemned due to unsafe and unhealthy conditions. The two buildings were built in the 1940’s. HUD provided the 185 Elmwood and McBride families with tenant protection vouchers that allowed them to relocate anywhere within the nation.
