Williamson County Reports 35 New COVID-19 Cases Wednesday

SOUTHERN ILLINOIS – The Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) Tuesday announced 1,740 new confirmed cases of coronavirus disease (COVID-19) in Illinois, including 27 additional confirmed deaths.

Williamson County accounted for 35 of 99 cases reported across the region Tuesday. The Franklin-Williamson Bi-County Health Department said it’s investigating outbreaks at two long-term care facilities.

Local case breakdown:

  • Williamson County: 35
  • Perry County: 20
  • Jackson County: 14
  • Franklin County: eight
  • White County: seven (four isolated at home, three statuses in progress)
  • Hamilton and Union counties: four each
  • Johnson and Saline counties: two each
  • Jefferson, Gallatin and Massac County: one each

Currently, IDPH is reporting a total of 209,594 cases, including 7,782 deaths, in 102 counties in Illinois. The preliminary seven-day statewide positivity for cases as a percent of total test from August 11 – August 17 is 4.3 percent.
