SOUTHERN ILLINOIS – The Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) Wednesday announced 2,295 new confirmed cases of coronavirus disease (COVID-19) in Illinois, including 25 additional confirmed deaths.
Williamson County reported the most cases among southern Illinois communities at 38, the largest single-day increase to date.
Local case breakdown:
- Williamson County: 38
- Randolph County: 22
- Franklin County: nine
- Jackson, Johnson, Perry and Union counties: seven each
- Jefferson County: five, one additional death at a long-term care facility
- White County: three
- Massac County: two
- Gallatin, Saline and Pulaski counties: one each
Currently, IDPH is reporting a total of 211,889 cases, including 7,806 deaths, in 102 counties in Illinois. The preliminary seven-day statewide positivity for cases as a percent of total test from August 12 – August 18 is 4.4 percent.
