SOUTHERN ILLINOIS – The Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) Sunday announced 1,893 new confirmed cases of coronavirus disease (COVID-19) in Illinois, including 6 additional confirmed deaths. One death was reported in Randolph County.
Local case breakdown:
- Williamson County: 24
- Randolph County: 22, one death
- Jackson County: seven
- Franklin and White counties: four each
- Saline County: two (one isolated at home, the other case status is in progress)
The Franklin-Williamson Bi-County Health Department was notified Friday by IDPH that Franklin and Williamson counties are now at the warning level for COVID-19.
Franklin and Williamson counties saw cases or outbreaks associated with businesses, long-term care facilities, church settings, weddings, youth sports, social gatherings, and out of state travel. There have also been several instances of multiple cases among family members in the same household.
Currently, IDPH is reporting a total of 220,178 cases, including 7,880 deaths, in 102 counties in Illinois. The preliminary seven-day statewide positivity for cases as a percent of total tests from August 16-22 is 4.2 percent.
