MARION – The Marion City Council Monday night awarded the bid of $103,600 to Earth Services out of Benton to demolish the Pali Kai restaurant property and the Marion Daily Republican building, each located near City Hall.
City spokesperson Cody Moake said two other bids were received for the project – one from Green Trac, LLC for $57,348, the other from McVicker Excavating for $124,675. Moake added Green Trac asked Monday for their bid to be rescinded.
The city received a 35 percent grant from USDA Rural Development to demolish the buildings and convert the spaces into a parking lot maxing at $99,900.
According to Moake, demolition will begin on the two buildings the week of Sept. 28 and will take two to three weeks to complete. Then paving will begin on the new parking lots.
