Vehicle Thefts in Carbondale Thursday Under Investigation

CARBONDALE – Carbondale Police are investigating a motor vehicle theft that occurred Thursday morning.

According to a release from the Carbondale Police Department, officers responded to the 300 block of South Emerald St around 2:25 a.m. this morning, finding the vehicle during an investigation and attempting a traffic stop. The driver of the stolen vehicle and a separate vehicle nearby fled from the officer in different directions in the area of West Main and North Almond Streets.

Officers followed the first vehicle, which eventually crashed into a utility pole on the 300 block of West Pecan Street with the driver fleeing the scene on foot. Officers later found the second vehicle abandoned in the intersection of West Chestnut and North Michaels Streets, finding it was also stolen from a residence in the 300 block of South Plover St.

The driver of the first vehicle is described as a black male who was wearing a gray long sleeved shirt and black shorts at the time of the incident. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Carbondale Police Department at 457-3200.
