Two Death Due to COVID-19 Reported in Southern Illinois

SPRINGFIELD – 4,979 new COVID-19 cases, including 123 additional deaths, were reported by the Illinois Department of Public Health Thursday. Two deaths and 262 new cases of the novel coronavirus were reported throughout southern Illinois.

Currently, IDPH is reporting a total of 1,086,333 cases, including 18,520 deaths.

Local case breakdown:

  • Perry County: 65 (52 at correctional facility)
  • Williamson County: 39
  • Jefferson County: 29
  • Jackson County: 27
  • Saline County: 25, one death
  • Franklin County: 14, one death
  • White County: 12
  • Union County: 11
  • Johnson County: 10
  • Massac County: nine
  • Alexander and Pulaski counties: six each
  • Pope County: four
  • Hamilton County: three
  • Hardin County: two

The preliminary seven-day statewide positivity for cases as a percent of total test from Jan. 14–20 is 5.4 percent.
