CARBONDALE- The Paul Simon Public Policy Institute invites you to a special Zoom-only conversation with Illinois State Senate President Don Harmon and Institute Director John Shaw. The conversation will cover various topics, including Harmon’s career in politics, his role as President of the Illinois Senate, and the legislative agenda in Springfield for 2021.
Harmon, elected to the Illinois Senate in 2002, represents the 39th District which includes such communities as Oak Park, Franklin Park, and Melrose Park. He became Illinois Senate president in January of 2020. In his legislative career he advocates for early childhood education, ethics reform, environmental protections, expanded voter access, and civil rights. Harmon has an undergraduate degree from Knox College and a law degree and MBA from the University of Chicago.
