CARBONDALE – The City of Carbondale has named two finalists for its police chief – Interim Police Chief Stan Reno and John Franklin.
Franklin is the former police chief of Jacksonville, AR and Dolton, IL. He is also retired from the Chicago Police Department where he served as a Commander. Reno became Interim Chief after Police Chief Jeff Grubbs retired last September.
The city began looking for its new top cop in February with a nationwide search. After looking over a review of resumes, the Chief of Police Selection Committee interviewed four candidates April 7 and 8. As a result of those interviews, the Selection Committee recommended Reno and Franklin for interviews this week.
City Manager Gary Williams will make the final selection for Police Chief pending the outcome of final interviews.
Following an extensive background check, the new police chief is expected to begin work in May or June.
