Two Deaths, 56 New COVID-19 Cases Reported Thursday in Region

SPRINGFIELD – The Illinois Department of Public Health Thursday reported 1,778 new COVID-19 cases in Illinois, including 40 additional deaths. In southern Illinois, health departments reported 56 new cases of the coronavirus throughout the region in total.

Currently, IDPH is reporting a total of 1,348,176 cases, including 22,136 deaths.

Local case breakdown:

  • Williamson County: 12, one death
  • Jackson County: 11
  • Franklin County: 10, one death
  • Perry County: six
  • Jefferson County: four
  • Saline County: three
  • Johnson, Massac and Union counties: two each
  • White, Alexander, Pope and Hamilton counties: one each

The preliminary seven-day statewide test positivity from April 29-May 5, 2021 is 3.8%.

A total of 9,646,432 vaccines have been administered so far in Illinois. The seven-day rolling average of vaccines administered daily is 70,063 doses. On Wednesday, 99,599 doses were reported administered in Illinois.
