The cost of a steak to put on the grill continues to escalate and it is largely due to a shortage of truck drivers in Illinois and the rest of the country.
Industry officials said the driver shortage is pushing the entire pricing system up as supply chains are disrupted.
Matt Hart, executive director of the Illinois Trucking Association, said 97% of the trucking companies he surveyed say they are short of drivers. He added the shortage is having an effect on “not only the things that we are buying, but the things we throw away.”
Hart said Chicago’s garbage facilities are being overrun because there are not enough drivers to haul the trash out of the city.
