SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (IOCI RADIO) – Illinois is now the first state in the country to require Asian American history be taught in public schools.
Gov. JB Pritzker signed the bill into law, which will be in effect for the 2022-23 school year.
The governor said curriculum will also cover the traditions and contributions of the Asian American and Pacific Islander communities. The unit will be required in all public elementary and high schools.
