K9 Added to Franklin County Sheriff’s Department

The Franklin County Sheriff’s Office, in partnership with the Southern Illinois Drug Task Force (SIDTF), has added an K9 officer to the department.

According to Franklin County Chief Deputy Kyle Bacon, a $15,000 gift to purchase K9 Riot was provided by the Southern Illinois Drug Task Force as a result of a federal forfeiture drug case initiated by the SIDTF. Additional funds for the purchase of related K9 equipment were provided by State Representative Dave Severin.

As per the agreement, the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office will provide the K9 handler, specialized vehicle, and related equipment. K9 Riot and Deputy Ryan Payne will soon begin an intensive six week training program conducted at Vohne Liche Kennels in Denver, IN.

Vohne Liche Kennels has trained police and military service dogs for over 5,000 law enforcement and government agencies. The training will include tracking, narcotic detection, and apprehension.
