A 23-year-old Salem man was arrested over the weekend on a Jefferson County warrant charging him with burglary.
According to the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Department, law enforcement authorities in Marion County arrested Tristan N. Rankin on the $30,000 warrant Sunday and took him to the Marion County Jail.
The arrest warrant stemmed from a Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office investigation into an October 11th burglary complaint made at the Southern Illinois Fair and Expo grounds on North Wells Bypass in Rural Mt. Vernon.
Owners reported a John Deere tractor being stolen from one of the buildings on the grounds.
Sheriff’s office detectives reportedly worked with deputies from the Marion County Sheriff’s Office to locate and recover the tractor at an address in the rural Salem area.
Rankin was identified as the offender who took the tractor and after submitting the investigation to the Jefferson County State’s Attorney, an arrest warrant was issued and charges Rankin with Class 2 felony burglary.
