WEST FRANKFORT – A Christopher man was killed in a two-vehicle crash in Franklin County Wednesday morning.
According to Franklin County Chief Deputy Kyle Bacon, the sheriff’s Office, received a 911 call at 10 a.m. reporting the crash on Illinois 149 at the intersection of Freeman Spur Road west of West Frankfort.
Deputies responded and located the crash scene. Evidence at the scene revealed that a pickup truck, driven by 82-year-old James A. Vanhorn of Christopher, was traveling north on Freeman Spur Road approaching the intersection of State Highway 149. At the same time, a van driven by 43-year-old Clifton A. Bailey of De Soto was going westbound on Illinois 149 approaching the intersection of Freeman Spur Road.
Vanhorn’s truck proceeded into the intersection and collided with Bailey’s van. Subsequent to the collision, Vanhorn was ejected from his vehicle. He was pronounced dead at the scene by the Franklin County Coroner’s Office.
Bailey was transported by ambulance to an area hospital with non-life- threatening injuries.
The crash is being investigated by the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office and the Franklin County Coroner’s Office. Assisting agencies include the West Frankfort Fire Department, West Frankfort Police Department, and the Franklin County Emergency Management Agency.
