Benton City Council Votes to Not Pay Further COVID Benefit Days

BENTON – The Benton City Council Monday night unanimously voted not to pay any further COVID benefit days retroactive to Jan. 1.

According to City Clerk Brook Craig, the City paid 10 COVID benefit days for either the illness or if an employee was in quarantine. It was decided the City gives ample vacation, personal and sick days to cover any further illness.

In other business, the Council approved a preliminary engineering agreement between the City and Union Pacific Railroad Company for the Wastena Street crossing. The cost is $10,000 and is included in the total project cost for the widening of Wastena Street according to Craig.

The Council also approved raising the deposit amount at Twin Oaks from $100 to $200. Craig said it’s being done to cover the cost of cleaning, if not done by the renter.
