(IOCI RADIO) – The Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE) announced more than $2 million in grants to help districts attract new teachers.
Districts are encouraged to apply for the “Grow Your Own” grants to help build programs to attract local high school students into the education profession. Students often participate in teacher-prep courses and are often given hands-on experience in area classrooms.
ISBE Executive Director of Teaching and Learning Dr. Jennifer Kirmes called it a “vital initiative.”
Kirmes said 60% of teachers work in a school within 20 miles of their high school. Learn more about the grants here.
