METROPOLIS – Two people were injured in a crash just before noon Sunday in Massac County.
According to Illinois State Police (ISP), just before noon, 42-year-old Melanie L. Dutton of Metropolis was driving her black 2014 Cadillac SRX northbound on Illinois Route 145, just south of Country Acre Lane in Massac County, as 27-year-old Nicholas J. Zertuche of Harrisburg was driving his white 2018 GMC Sierra southbound at the same location.
For an unknown reason, Dutton’s vehicle crossed into oncoming traffic and struck Zertuche’s vehicle. Dutton was flown to a regional hospital for serious, life-threatening injuries. Zertuche was transported by ambulance to a regional hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
All lanes were reopened at 4 p.m. after crash investigation and scene clean-up.
No further information will be disseminated at this time.
ISP said charges are pending investigation.
