(The Center Square) – The Illinois House Labor and Commerce Committee met with safety officials to discuss the lack of enforcement when it comes to storm shelters for workers.
The review of safety standards and storm shelters for Illinois warehouses comes after the tornado that claimed six lives at an Amazon Warehouse in Edwardsville.
Jim Bell, director of operations with the National Storm Shelter Association, said more enforcement of safety regulations is needed.
Bell said that all warehouses should have a tornado shelter and that those shelters should be built correctly.
The Edwardsville Amazon warehouse that was struck by a tornado in December did not have a proper tornado shelter available.
