(IOCI RADIO) – A bill headed to Gov. J.B. Pritzker’s desk was prompted by last year’s death of an Illinois State University student.
The “Jelani Day Act” will require county coroners to notify the FBI if a body isn’t identified within 72 hours. The bill is sponsored by Rep. Kam Buckner of Chicago.
Day was reported missing in late August 2021. Remains were found in the Illinois River a little over a week later, but they were not identified as Day’s until Sept. 23, causing his family additional trauma.
