Illinois sports bettors broke a record in wagering on the NCAA Men’s College basketball tournament.

According to PlayIllinois.com, over $286 million dollars was bet on both the men’s and women’s tournaments, a significant increase from last year when the March Madness handle was around $200 million.  

Analyst Joe Boozell said this year’s March numbers should be in the neighborhood of $900 million.

For comparison, Illinoisans wagered about $61 million dollars on the Super Bowl.
