Landmarks Illinois, Banterra Bank Announce Grant to Preserve, Rehab Historic Structures

MARION – Landmarks Illinois along with Banterra Bank and Marion Mayor Mike Absher Tuesday announced the new Landmarks Illinois Banterra Bank Preserve Southern Illinois Grant Program at a community event held in Paradise Alley on Tower Square in Marion.

Bonnie McDonald, Landmarks Illinois President and CEO, said Landmarks Illinois is partnering with Banterra Bank to provide monetary assistance to preserve or rehabilitate historic structures in downtowns – i.e. in downtown Marion with several buildings being rehabilitated – and other commercial corridors of southern Illinois to support economic development.

McDonald said the program will provide a minimum of $20,000 in grant funding for two years to historic preservation projects in the region.

This is the first grant program Landmarks Illinois has targeted to a specific Illinois economic development region. Private building owners, developers, for-profit business owners, commercial property owners, non-profit organizations and governmental bodies are encouraged to apply.

The first grant application deadline is July 15. Visit landmarks.org for detailed grant guidelines and to submit an application.
