Mulkeytown Man Found Dead After Crashing Truck Into Zeigler Reservoir Saturday

ZEIGLER – A Mulkeytown man died after his vehicle crashed into the Zeigler Reservoir on Dry Road Saturday.

According to the Franklin County Emergency Management Agency, the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office received a call shortly before 8 a.m. reporting a vehicle that was seen to be partially submerged in the reservoir. Deputies quickly responded and located the vehicle that was nearly completely submerged in water. Deputies requested a tow company to respond. The Illinois Dept. of Natural Resources – Conservation Police as well as the Franklin County Emergency Management Agency Dive Team were also requested to respond.

The vehicle was soon towed from the water and found to contain a dead man, identified as 39-year-old Quinten W. Haney of Mulkeytown.

Conservation Police deployed a boat and utilized sonar to check for the possibility of other occupants who may have been ejected from the vehicle at the time of the crash. Franklin County Emergency Management Agency Dive Team members assisted. No other occupants were located.

Evidence at the scene indicated that the vehicle, a 2008 Ford F-150 truck, was traveling north on Dry Road. Roadway evidence indicated that the vehicle crossed over into the southbound lane, overcorrected, struck a tree, and ran off the east side of the roadway and into the lake.

The Franklin County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Illinois Dept of Natural Resources – Conservation Police, Franklin County Emergency Management Agency and the Franklin County Coroner’s Office.
