REND LAKE – A Benton man died in a single-vehicle accident on Rend Lake Dam Road Sunday night.

According to Franklin County Sheriff Kyle Bacon, the sheriff’s office received a report about the accident at 7:06 p.m.

Deputies quickly responded and located a single vehicle crash on the east end of the Rend Lake Dam Road. The preliminary investigation indicates that the involved vehicle, a 2018 GMC Truck, was traveling east on Rend Lake Dam Road. Evidence at the scene indicated that the vehicle exited the north side of the roadway and struck the concrete base of a light pole. As a result of injuries sustained in the crash, the driver and only occupant of the vehicle, 40-year-old Ian D. Fee of Benton, was pronounced dead at the scene by the Franklin County Coroner’s Office.

Agencies assisting included Abbott EMS, Sesser Fire Department, the Benton Fire Department, U.S. Army Corp of Engineers, and the Franklin County Coroner’s Office.

The crash is being investigated by the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office.
