
INA – A fiery crash involving two semis on northbound I-57 in Jefferson County Saturday night kills one person and injures another.
According to Illinois State Police, around 11:40 p.m., one semi was going south on I-57 at mile marker 83 when for unknown reasons, it crossed through the median and into the northbound lanes and struck another semi head-on. Both semis caught fire as a result of the crash.
One driver was pronounced dead on scene. One driver was transported by helicopter to an area hospital with serious injuries.
Northbound traffic was diverted off I-57 onto Illinois 37 until 10:30 a.m. Sunday.
ISP says this is an ongoing investigation. There is no further information at this time.
