CARMI/WEST FRANKFORT – The White County Sheriff’s Office says some stolen oilfield property has been recovered.

Sheriff Jordan Weiss says on Tuesday, the sheriff’s office took a theft report from George Mitchell Drilling of Carmi.

A company spokesperson reported a drill bit stolen from a location in the Calvin bottoms on County Road 2200 N. The drill bit was a Smith brand drilling bit and had a replacement value of $20,000. Sheriff Weiss advised that a subsequent investigation was conducted into the incident in conjunction with the Franklin County Sheriff’s Department. The drill bit was recovered in Franklin County.

On Thursday, an officer from the sheriff’s office met with the Franklin County Sheriff’s Department at a location in West Frankfort and took possession of the stolen drill bit. The drill bit has been released to George Mitchell Drilling.

Sheriff Weiss says this incident is still under investigation.
