MARION – Williamson County was relatively incident-free on solar eclipse day Monday.
Williamson County Emergency Management Agency Director Brian Burgess says despite thousands of visitors in the area, the most significant incidents were a few traffic accidents.
The Williamson County EMA staffed an emergency operations center (EOC) jointly with the City of Marion throughout the day. EOC personnel contacted law enforcement, area hospitals, the Crab Orchard Wildlife Refuge, United Ambulance, the National Weather Service, and other agencies to monitor activity and offer support.
Burgess says although they did not need to mobilize any extra resources, events like this also allow them to exercise their plans and systems to stay sharp for natural disasters or other major events.
