ASHLEY/MT. VERNON – A semi-truck breakdown Monday afternoon resulted in Interstate 64 being closed between Ashley and Mt. Vernon and traffic detoured for almost two hours.

According to the Illinois State Police, around 1:19 p.m. Monday, troopers responded to I-64 eastbound near Shiloh Drive for a semi with trailer that broke down in the roadway and required a tow.

A separate semi carrying an oversized load was unable to pass the broken down semi, and traffic was temporarily blocked as a result.

The broken-down semi was towed from the scene and all traffic resumed normally around 2:50 p.m.
