CARBONDALE – A pedestrian was severely injured after being hit by a vehicle Tuesday night in the 1200 block of West Main Street in Carbondale.

According to Carbondale Police, officers arrived and found the victim unresponsive in the roadway with serious injuries. An ambulance took the victim to the hospital for treatment and they remain hospitalized.

The victim walked across two lanes of traffic on West Main then stopped while still in a lane of traffic. That’s when they were struck by the vehicle. The victim was not in the crosswalk when they were struck.

The driver, 24-year-old Simeon L. Everage of Carbondale, was cited for Driving While License Suspended and released pending a court appearance.

Illinois State Police assisted with the investigation.
