BENTON – A 73-year-old Christopher man was found guilty Thursday of predatory criminal sexual assault of a child.

The Franklin County jury found Douglas L. Carpenter guilty of the Class X felony of sexually assaulting a child. The incident happened on Dec. 19, 2020.

The victim immediately told their mother about the abuse and subsequently told police in Herrin and Christopher, along with the Franklin-Williamson Child Advocacy Center.

Carpenter will be sentenced at a later date.

Carpenter is still facing two charges in Williamson County Court of Class X felony predatory criminal sexual assault of the same child.
