White County Crash Leaves McLeansboro Woman Injured

CARMI – A McLeansboro woman was injured in a two-vehicle crash in White County Monday evening.

According to Illinois State Police (ISP), around 5:45 p.m. a car driven by 35-year-old Chelsey Smith of Fairfield was driving west on Illinois 14 near County Road 900 East as another car driven by 83-year-old Jesse Campbell of McLeansboro was also going west in the same location behind Smith. Campbell said he looked away from the road briefly and rear-ended Smith’s car.

Campbell, Smith and a passenger in Smith’s car, 40-year-old James Smith of Fairfield, reported no injuries. Campbell’s passenger, 77-year-old Carolyn Campbell of McLeansboro, was taken by ambulance to an area hospital with minor injuries.

ISP said the crash remains under investigation. No further information is available at this time. Charges are pending.
