MARION – Prospect League Baseball makes it debut tonight in Marion as the Thrillville Thrillbillies are set to face the Jackson, TN Rockabillys at Marion Stadium at 6:45.

The Thrillbillies and the Rockabillys are the two newest teams in the Prospect League for 2023.

An announcement about baseball coming back to to the ballpark, formerly Rent One Park, was made last August during the Colt World Series at the ballpark. The ballpark officially became part of the Black Diamond Family of Businesses in January 2022.

After the announcement was made, ballpark officials asked for the community’s help naming the new team. A website, NameOurNewTeam.com, was created where the public could submit their name ideas online. The list was narrowed down to five – Thrillbillies, Fungi, Swamp Foxes, Angry Beavers and Monkey Rats – with Thrillbillies introduced as the winner in February.

Marion has been without baseball since 2021 when the owners of the Frontier League’s Southern Illinois Miners retired and folded the team. The Miners started play in 2007.
